Barcelona has already published the pre-registration calendar for the municipal nursery schools for the 2026 2027 academic year, with an expansion of the offer that will incorporate 145 new places to the public network for 0 to 3 year olds.

The places will be aimed at children who are more than four months old in September 2026, a requirement set to be able to access this call. The start of the school year has been set for September 8 for the following three years.

Open doors in the 106 municipal schools

The open days will be held between April 7 and May 5 in the 106 municipal nursery schools of Barcelona. During those weeks, families will be able to get to know the centers closely before the pre-registration process.

The city will expand the network with two notable actions. The municipal nursery school EBM Tramuntana, in Sant Andreu, will add 104 places, while the expansion of the municipal nursery school EBM la Mar, in Barceloneta, will provide another 41.

Specific offer by centers and schedules

In addition to this reinforcement, the municipal nursery school EMB Germanetes, in the Eixample, will offer two groups of hourly diversification. To this will be added five full-time groups and two reduced-time groups for children born in 2024 and 2025.

The pre-registration for the reduced-hours places will open between May 4 and 15, within an already scheduled process for the next academic year. With this expansion, the coverage of applications in the municipal network will go from the current 66% to 71%, with the aim of absorbing a greater part of the demand for places in the different neighborhoods of the city.

The publication of the calendar thus activates one of the most followed processes by Barcelona families, especially in areas with high demand pressure such as Sant Andreu, la Barceloneta or the Eixample, where the new offer will have a direct impact in the 2026 2027 academic year.
