A year after the draw for the public housing development of Illa Glòries, the largest in Barcelona with 238 homes spread across four buildings, about seventy keys for surface rights apartments still remain to be handed over. The immediate schedule involves about thirty handovers this month, but the rest still have no defined date.
The delay also coexists with incidents in already occupied apartments. While the 67 awardees of block C continue without receiving their keys, a couple from block D reports accessibility problems and technical deficiencies a month after moving in.
The 67 awardees of block C still without keys a year after the draw
The Illa Glòries development was presented as the largest in the city and was awarded a year ago. However, the handover has not been completed for the surface rights apartments, and the wait persists for dozens of beneficiaries.
Miki, one of those affected, described the practical impact of the delay on the daily lives of those who expected to move into their homes already.
"The situation creates uncertainty, especially among those neighbors who, due to the delay in handover, have had to extend the rental contracts for the apartments where they lived until now" - Miki, affected awardee, Illa Glòries development
For now, the forecast is to hand over about thirty keys this month. The problem is concentrated mainly in block C, where the 67 awardees are still awaiting their keys due to delays in the handover process.
A resident of block D needs help to leave through the main door
Enric and Laia, residents of block D, have reported accessibility incidents a month after moving in. Laia, who uses a wheelchair, cannot leave the main door autonomously because the automatic sensor works for entering, but not for exiting.
The couple also points to other deficiencies within the apartments. They cite water pressure problems, antenna failures, and internal installations that are still pending completion.
From the municipal sphere, sources from the Barcelona City Council indicated that the Municipal Housing Institute is working to resolve the pending details in the development. In parallel, residents of blocks A and B, intended for rental housing and handed over earlier, have a positive view of both access to affordable housing and the complex's location.
Next week, technicians will review the installation and operation of the magnetic opening and closing system of the entrance door of block D.
