A woman of 83 years old has died after being run over by a vehicle in Sant Gervasi la Bonanova, in Barcelona. The accident occurred on Monday, April 13, shortly after 11:00 a.m., at the intersection of Ciutat de Balaguer street with Sant Màrius. The victim died on Tuesday morning.

To the scene, personnel from the Central Unit of Traffic Accident Reports of the Urban Guard and of the Medical Emergencies System were dispatched, who attended to the emergency and took charge of the corresponding actions.

First pedestrian victim of the year in Barcelona

The death of this woman is the first of a pedestrian in a traffic accident in Barcelona in 2026. With this case, the total number of fatal victims on the city's streets rises to five so far this year.

Among the victims registered so far are a cyclist, who died on January 9 at the intersection of Vilamarí with Diputació, and three motorcyclists. The last previous fatal accident had been that of a 49-year-old motorcyclist, last February 25.

Balance of accident rate in the city

The accumulated data place this run-over within a start of the year with five fatalities due to road accidents in Barcelona. In the whole of 2025, 11 fatal victims were counted in the city, distributed among five pedestrians, five motorcyclists, and one cyclist.

The investigation into the circumstances of the run-over incident has been left in the hands of the traffic accident investigation unit of the Guàrdia Urbana, while the city adds a new fatal victim on the urban road network and the first among pedestrians this year.
