Barcelona will celebrate Sant Jordi 2026 without stalls on La Rambla due to the transformation works of the promenade. The activity will provisionally move to Portal de l"Àngel, Plaça Nova and Plaça de la Catedral, in a change that reorders one of the most crowded points of the diada in Ciutat Vella.

Provisional transfer of the central axis

The new distribution draws a temporary axis that leaves from La Rambla and reaches up to the surroundings of the Cathedral. The planned device contemplates 425 stalls, of which 61 will be of flowers and 364 of books. Within the editorial offer, 257 stalls will feature author signings.

"With this day in which we open new spaces, with the temporary axis that leaves the Rambla and reaches the Catedral, we demonstrate our capacity for adaptation" - Èric del Arco, president of the Gremi de Llibreters

To this deployment will also be added 130 bookstore stalls located in front of their establishments, at street level. In total, the implementation of stalls will occupy practically four kilometers in the city.

Distribution by districts and strengthening of literary spaces

The largest concentration of stalls will again be in Eixample, with 243. Ciutat Vella will gather 110, while Gràcia will have 35. The distribution will be completed with 15 in Poblenou, 14 in Les Corts, 5 in Sant Andreu and 3 in Sarrià.

  • Eixample, 243
  • Ciutat Vella, 110
  • Gràcia, 35
  • Poblenou, 15
  • Les Corts, 14
  • Sant Andreu, 5
  • Sarrià, 3

The Passeig de Lluís Companys and the Passeig de Sant Joan will concentrate the offer of children's, youth, and comic literature. Also, the project of the literary super-block in the Passeig de Gràcia will be reinforced, one of the great spaces of influx during the day.

More licenses and an offer spread throughout the city

The City Council has granted 5,489 licenses for Sant Jordi 2026. The figure accompanies a more territorially extended model and with more points of sale, in an edition marked by the reorganization of the center and by the opening of new spaces to absorb the influx of public.

"Our goal is not to set any record, but to offer books for everyone" - Patrici Tixis, president of the Gremi d"Editors de Catalunya and of the Cambra del Llibre

"We have broken a record for stalls. Licenses for books and roses from the City Council sold out and next year we will go for more" - Xavier Marcé, Culture councilman

The diada will thus arrive with a Rambla outside the usual circuit of stalls, but with a wider network distributed between Ciutat Vella, the Eixample and other neighborhoods. The municipal and sector objective is to maintain the attraction capacity of Sant Jordi in the center of Barcelona without losing commercial presence or cultural activity.
