El Ayuntamiento de Barcelona celebrates this Friday the ordinary plenary session of April with several debates on facilities and a political agenda marked by security, immigration, housing and language. One of the central issues will be the definitive location of the Parc de Bombers de l"Eixample and of the Escola Entença, two services that now operate provisionally in the Parc de Joan Miró and in the old Model prison.
Debate on the future fire station of the Eixample
The proposal that will reach the plenary plans to move the Bombers de l"Eixample to the space currently occupied by a luxury car dealership. The initiative has, in principle, the support of PSC, Barcelona en Comú and ERC, which facilitates its progress in the municipal session.
Even so, the decision will not be completely closed this Friday. The definitive location of the fire station remains pending the approval of the Generalitat, a necessary procedure to culminate the operation.
In the same session, the situation of Escola Entença will also be addressed, which continues installed in the old Model prison while its definitive location is defined.
Security, immigration and sport in the proposals of the groups
Junts will bring to the plenary a request to promote a plan against delinquent youth gangs drawn up by the Guàrdia Urbana and the Mossos d'Esquadra. The group will also demand the installation of natural ice in the Narcís Sala for the UE Sant Andreu.
Barcelona en Comú will put the focus on the attention to migrant people who can avail themselves of the extraordinary regularization. Its proposal involves creating a special mechanism and a single window to centralize the processing and the administrative attention.
The PP will ask the city council to express its rejection of the migratory policy of the Government of Spain, while Vox will urge the executive of Jaume Collboni to recognize Castilian as the habitual and majority language of the people of Barcelona.
Public housing and school feeding
In the social block, the PSC will defend an initiative to recognize the usefulness of state funds destined for the purchase of properties to expand the public housing stock. The proposal seeks to strengthen the municipal capacity to incorporate new properties into this area.
ERC, for its part, will ask to reinforce the healthier and more sustainable school canteens project. Its approach includes less red meat, more vegetable protein and local products in the menus.
The session arrives with a broad agenda and with votes that can mark significant decisions for neighborhoods like Nova Esquerra de l"Eixample and Sant Andreu. The debate about the Bombers and the Escola Entença will concentrate a good part of the political attention, although the plenary session will also serve to measure the positions of the groups on sensitive issues for the city such as security, the reception of migrants, housing and the linguistic model.
