A motorcyclist was slightly injured this Monday by the fall of a large tree at the intersection of València street and Bruc street, in Barcelona's Eixample, around 5:00 PM.
The accident occurs more than a year and a half after the last fatal victim from a similar incident in the city, when a palm tree killed a young woman in the Raval in August 2023. On this occasion, the driver received assistance from the SEM and no other person is reported to be affected.
The fall of the tree forced the closure of traffic at the València and Bruc intersection
Agents of the Guàrdia Urbana cut off traffic in the area shortly after the incident to facilitate the motorcyclist's care and secure the perimeter at one of the intersections in the Eixample district.
After the initial intervention, the removal of the tree was pending the Bombers de Barcelona or workers from Parcs i Jardins, according to municipal sources.
Barcelona registered 522 incidents involving trees during the storm on February 12
This Monday's fall occurs after a winter in which the wind had already tested the urban trees of the Catalan capital. On February 12, the storm associated with Storm Nils caused 522 incidents involving trees in parks and streets of Barcelona.
That episode also left a maximum gust of 105 km/h at the Port of Barcelona, one of the highest readings of the day in the city.
The last death from a falling tree in Barcelona was recorded in August 2023 in the Raval neighborhood, when a palm tree caused the death of a young woman.
