A fire in an apartment on Nou de la Rambla street, number 92, in El Raval, left one home burnt and uninhabitable this Thursday and seriously affected two other apartments in the same building. The fire broke out around 11:30 AM in an apartment on the third or fourth floor for reasons that have not yet been clarified.

The main immediate consequence was not only healthcare assistance, but seven residents from the three affected apartments will not be able to return to their homes temporarily. The City Council has set up the CUESB so that those affected can spend the night while their situation is resolved.

Eight people were treated for smoke inhalation and two ended up in the hospital

The Bombers de la Generalitat extinguished the flames in a few minutes and traffic on this street in El Raval was reopened shortly after 1:00 PM. During the intervention, the SEM treated eight people for smoke inhalation.

Most of the affected people were discharged at the scene. Nevertheless, the tenant of the apartment where the fire started and a 70-year-old woman had to be transferred to a hospital.

In the building, the fire rendered the original apartment unusable and seriously damaged two others. The incident also forced temporary accommodation to be found for the residents of those three apartments.

The fire in El Raval adds to several recent incidents in Barcelona

In recent weeks, Barcelona has experienced several similar events in different parts of the city. In El Raval itself, on April 13, an apartment under renovation on Sant Bernat passage caught fire.

Also on April 12, a fire affected the roof of the Hotel Pulitzer, on Bergara street, and on April 17, a gas leak in El Carmel left several residents without supply for hours. A few days later, on April 22, a 92-year-old man died in a fire in his home on Gran Via.

More recently, on May 12, a butane gas cylinder explosion in a building in Poblenou caused 11 injuries. Before that, on March 27, another fire in an apartment on Sant Joan promenade forced the evacuation of 23 residents and the SEM treated two people for smoke inhalation.

In Thursday's fire, traffic on Nou de la Rambla street did not return to normal until shortly after 1:00 PM, once the Bombers de la Generalitat's operation was completed.
