The volunteer firefighters grouped in the platform Bombers Precaris en Lluita have traveled this Tuesday through the center of Barcelona in a bicycle march in which they simulated being delivery drivers to denounce their labor situation and demand improvements in their rights.
The protest has started at the Department of Interior and has passed through the Parliament of Catalonia and Sant Jaume square, on an itinerary through central points of the city with which the collective has wanted to make visible its discomfort before the institutions.
Claim of labor rights
The platform demands the recognition of rights such as Social Security contributions, the prevention of occupational hazards, and coverage for work accidents. The claim focuses on the situation of volunteer firefighters, who denounce a lack of protection in basic aspects linked to their activity.
"We are firefighters without labor rights and we are controlled by an application like Glovo riders" - Daniel Sitjà, president of Bombers Precaris en Lluita
The president of the collective has also insisted that the solution depends on a political decision. The platform maintains that the situation can be corrected if there is will on the part of the administration.
"The government can put an end to this situation whenever it wants, as it is only a matter of political will" - Daniel Sitjà, president of Bombers Precaris en Lluita
Lawsuits admitted and judicial horizon
Seven of the twelve joint lawsuits filed by Bombers Precaris at the end of 2025 in Catalonia have been admitted for processing. The collective interprets it as a step forward in its offensive to achieve the recognition of labor rights and a regulation of their situation.
The platform brings together 410 volunteer firefighters and maintains the struggle open both on the streets and in the courts. The start of the trials is scheduled between next autumn and winter, a calendar that will mark the next movements of a demand that the collective has once again placed in the center of Barcelona.
