The Mossos d'Esquadra and the Guàrdia Urbana have arrested four men between 27 and 39 years old for their alleged connection with the robbery at a phone store on Meridiana avenue, in the Sant Andreu district, which they accessed through a hole from the electricity meter room of the adjacent building. The assault occurred around 04:00 on April 20.
The investigation places the arrested in a group of five occupants who were circulating in a vehicle intercepted hours later. When a patrol tried to stop it at the intersection of Meridiana avenue with Aragó street, the car began to flee recklessly. The driver escaped in the opposite direction, ran red lights and even drove on the sidewalk in the direction of the Ronda del Litoral.
Chase to the port area
The escape ended in the vicinity of the port, where the occupants abandoned the vehicle and tried to escape on foot. The officers detained four of them, while a fifth managed to flee. The operation was carried out jointly between Mossos and Guàrdia Urbana.
Inside the car, the police located part of the material allegedly stolen in the Sant Andreu robbery. 15 smartwatches, seven mobile phones, three V16 beacons, two smart televisions, four batteries, a video game console and 43 wireless headphones were seized.
Tools to open the access
Along with the recovered items, the agents also found tools that point to the system used to access the establishment. Among the seized material there was a drill, an angle grinder, a thermal lance, oxygen and butane cylinders, an endoscopic camera and a hydraulic jack.
The investigators attribute to the group the entry into the store through a hole made from the meter room of the adjacent building, a method that allowed reaching the premises without accessing through the public road.
Seventeen police records among those arrested
The four detainees accumulate 17 previous arrests. After their arrest, they were placed at the disposal of the court on Wednesday, April 22. The case remains open to fully clarify the participation of each of those involved and locate the fifth occupant who managed to escape in the flight through the port area.
