Hundreds of teachers and professors blocked several roads in the center of Tarragona this Thursday morning in a new day of educational strike. The mobilization began early with blockades at the roundabout of the N-240 highway with Doctor Mallafré avenue and continued afterwards with a march between Imperial Tarraco square and Garrofers square.

The protest brought double pressure on the Generalitat of Catalonia to the streets. Unions are demanding changes in the conditions of teaching staff and in educational management, and at the same time they are asking the educational community to maintain the mobilization to force the inclusion of funds for education in the budgets.

Pickets blocked the N-240 from 7:15 a.m.

The day began at 7:15 a.m. with informational pickets at the roundabout connecting the N-240 highway with Doctor Mallafré avenue. During that action, the road was blocked in both directions.

Under the slogan "If they don't respect us... we block everything," participants denounced the situation of the educational system and demanded changes in both the working conditions of the teaching staff and the management of the system.

The march left at 11:30 a.m. from Imperial Tarraco square

In the center of Tarragona, the protest departed at 11:30 a.m. from Imperial Tarraco square towards Garrofers square. The route once again affected traffic in one of the busiest areas of the city during the morning.

In addition to the demonstration, the call included music, banner and badge workshops, and a popular meal. The organizers proposed the day as a sustained pressure action beyond the route through the city.

Unions stated that they expect positive negotiations, but insisted on asking the educational community to maintain pressure so that the budgets of the Generalitat of Catalonia include educational funds. The march ended in Garrofers square after a program of events that included banner and badge workshops and a popular meal.
