The Reus City Council opens on May 7 the period to apply for municipal aid intended to cover basic household expenses. The call will remain active until September 30 and has an initial allocation of 211,000 euros.
The budget may be increased up to 547,000 euros if citizen demand requires it during the months the subsidy is in effect.
The local administration has unified the management of the five available aid lines. This change allows applicants to submit economic and administrative documentation only once, avoiding the duplication of procedures that characterized previous editions.
Amounts are adapted to the size of the family unit
The amounts vary depending on the household composition and specific circumstances such as disability or age over 65 years. For water payment, aid ranges between 70 and 140 euros depending on the number of members.
In the case of energy poverty, subsidies finance electricity and gas consumption corresponding to the period between November 2025 and March 2026. Single-person households may receive 270 euros, while units of two or three members will obtain 315 euros.
Families of four or more members will receive 360 euros. The garbage tax has a coverage of 80 percent of the amount paid by the user.
Regarding the Real Estate Tax (IBI), the aid covers 25 percent of the general fee. This percentage can rise to 90 percent in the case of single-parent families, depending on the number of dependent children.
The number of approved files grows by 50 percent
Municipal data reflect a sustained increase in social demand in recent years. Between 2022 and 2025, the number of approved files went from 2,093 to 3,158.
This increase represents a 50 percent growth in accepted applications. The budget executed during this period has exceeded 446,000 euros.
To access these benefits, it is mandatory to reside and be registered in Reus since January 1st of this year. The processing will use the income declared in the 2024 fiscal year as a reference to determine the economic thresholds.
The council has sent SMS messages to beneficiaries of previous editions to inform them of the opening of the new period. Applications can be submitted electronically through the municipal electronic headquarters.
There is also the option of carrying out the procedure in person at the Citizen Attention Office and at the Taxpayer Service, provided that an appointment has been requested.
