The Seròs hostel opens its doors this Monday to welcome temporary workers in vulnerable situations. The facility resumes its activity with the aim of providing coverage during the agricultural campaign.
The stay has a maximum duration of 10 days for each assigned user. This time limit seeks to guarantee rotation and attend to more people in need.
Forty places available in private modules
The structure is privately owned and offers 40 places distributed in two fully equipped modules. The use of these facilities will be totally free for the people who occupy them.
Three facilitators hired by the Employment Service of Catalonia will carry out attention and support tasks. Their presence ensures personalized monitoring throughout the users' stay.
"The equipment will work longer due to the good functioning of the device in the first year" - Núria Gil, government delegate in Lleida
The authorities have decided to extend the operating period until the end of September this season. The decision responds to the positive results obtained during the first edition of the project.
Transport Managed by the Regional Council
The beneficiaries will be referred directly by the Lérida City Hall office. A passenger transport service will be in charge of taking them to the municipality of Seròs.
The County Council assumes the logistical management of transport and accommodation. The Generalitat finances these actions through the homelessness allocation of the current program contract.
The Provincial Council of Lleida also contributes economic resources to sustain the operation. This institutional collaboration strengthens the social support network in the province.
The device operated last year during May and September. Its function was to complement the municipal coverage in pavilion 3 of the Lérida Fair during the central summer months.
"Last year the facility registered 189 overnight stays from 36 users" - Data from the previous operation
Previous experience demonstrated the usefulness of the resource to alleviate the lack of accommodation. The occupancy figures validated the need to maintain and extend the service.
The extension until September consolidates a stable alternative to seasonal housing precariousness. The 36 users from the previous year found in this space dignified shelter while they looked for employment.
