The Association of Families of Students of the Macià Companys school in Agramunt has launched a project to renaturalize the schoolyard with the support of the company Milanta. The initiative seeks to transform an outdoor space currently dominated by pavement and sports courts into one with more green areas, play options, and educational uses.

The starting point of the project lies in the difference between the current schoolyard and the model proposed by the educational community. Instead of a space that prioritizes competitive sports, the AFA wants a more balanced, inclusive, and participatory environment for all students.

The AFA wants to replace the pavement-centered schoolyard model

Núria Figuera, president of the AFA, explains that the objective is to transform the outdoor space into a greener, more educational, inclusive, and participatory environment. The action has been designed together with Milanta.

Figuera details that the current schoolyard follows a traditional scheme, with a large presence of pavement and sports courts, as well as a sandbox and a swing area for younger children. The proposal aims to broaden the range of uses so that the space offers play and learning alternatives for all students.

The project is structured in three lines of work and prioritizes experimentation, relationships, and movement as a basis for fostering free play.

The new design includes gardens, agoras, and wooden structures

Among the planned actions are gardens, agoras, sand areas, wooden structures, huts, shade structures, and small slopes. The renovated schoolyard has also been conceived as a climate refuge within the center.

In addition to introducing more vegetation, the initiative incorporates the direct participation of students in the design. The students have contributed ideas and proposals during the definition process of the new space.

The execution will be carried out in phases. To finance it, the AFA plans to combine the collaboration of companies from Agramunt, contributions from the school and the town hall, and the income from the Festa Major bar, which the association itself will manage.

The plan reserves as one of its main uses increasing the presence of green areas in the center and turning the schoolyard into a climate refuge for the Macià Companys school.
