The man who presented himself as an investor of Lleida CF was arrested after attending a meeting in the club's office and being unable to identify himself to the Mossos d'Esquadra. The check of his fingerprints then uncovered an arrest warrant issued by the Barcelona Court.
The arrival of this supposed savior comes just a week after the club announced the arrival of a French businessman with a British passport, willing to cover the entity's expenses with his personal assets through a seven-year agreement. What was supposed to open a path to continuity has ended, according to the management of Lleida CF, in a possible scam.
Marc Torres confirmed that the identification revealed a prior court order
Marc Torres, deputy director of Lleida CF, explained that the officers took the individual to the police station after he could not prove his identity during the meeting held at the club's premises.
Once at the police station, fingerprint identification revealed that there was an arrest warrant against this person issued by the Barcelona Court. The reasons for this warrant have not yet been disclosed.
Following the police action, the detainee was placed at the disposal of the judicial authorities in Lleida. The incident occurred at the very beginning of the formalities related to the proposed operation with the club.
The club filed a complaint for fraud and document forgery
In a public appearance, Torres stated that the supposed investor has turned out to be a possible scam detected when initiating the formalities for the entry of capital into the entity.
The deputy president added that he filed a complaint for fraud and document forgery at the Les Corts police station in Barcelona, following the steps taken regarding the identity and proposal of the supposed businessman.
Torres also admitted that he can no longer do anything to rectify the situation and stated that he sees no future for the club, despite the efforts he had undertaken to avoid this outcome.
The operation announced last week contemplated that a French businessman with a British passport would cover the expenses of Lleida CF with his personal assets through a seven-year agreement.
