The pre-registration for intermediate and higher vocational training cycles in Catalonia will open from May 26 to June 1 for the 2026-2027 academic year. The Department of Education and Vocational Training presented the offer this Thursday at the Miquel Biada institute in Mataró, with a notable expansion in the railway professional family.
The announcement comes with a paradox in the access process. While the Generalitat is preparing new places and a tool to relocate vacancies, 30% of students continue to mark only one or two options in the pre-registration, which increases uncertainty when they do not manage to enter the chosen studies.
The railway offer will double places to reach 305
The railway professional family will double its offer, reaching 305 places in Catalonia. In addition, it will incorporate a new intermediate vocational training in Railway Safety that will be taught in Mollet.
The Government plans to train one thousand railway professionals in the next three years to face the transfer of Rodalies. The presentation of this planning was made in Mataró, at the Miquel Biada institute, one of the centers linked to this specialty.
Education will reduce the allocation of places to two rounds
The Department will also modify the adjudication calendar. The process will go from three to two rounds after observing very low attendance in the third phase.
The first round of assignments will be published on July 10. From that moment on, applicants must enroll in all the requests assigned to them.
Later, on July 24, a second round will be held to try to improve the initial assignment. The change seeks to adjust the procedure to the actual response of the students during the summer.
An algorithm will propose nearby vacancies or afternoon shifts
Education will incorporate an artificial intelligence algorithm to propose alternatives among vacant places based on the interests declared by each applicant. The tool will be able to offer, for example, afternoon shifts to those who have only requested daytime study or nearby centers to those who have only chosen Barcelona.
Esther Niubó, Minister of Education and Vocational Training, stated that this formula aims to facilitate access to the places that remain free. The measure is especially aimed at those who limit their initial application significantly and are left out of their first options.
The data that has guided this adjustment is that 30% of the student body only includes one or two options in the pre-enrollment. The second round to review and improve the assignment will be set for July 24.
