L'Hospitalet de Llobregat has begun the replacement of 4,250 waste containers with the introduction of new collection vehicles, an operation that started in La Florida and will extend for a month and a half throughout the rest of the neighborhoods.
The change is carried out at night to avoid affecting traffic and daily activity, but it requires renewing each complete point in a few hours. Up to six teams work in a coordinated manner to empty, remove, clean the surroundings, and install the new containers on the same night, with the aim that no area is left without service.
La Florida kicked off a nighttime deployment that will last a month and a half
The La Florida neighborhood, in Samontà, has been the first to receive the new containers within the second phase of the new contract for waste collection and public space cleaning, promoted under the slogan L'H més que net.
After preliminary tests with the new trucks, the operation has now entered the deployment phase. The installation is progressing by sectors and will continue progressively throughout the rest of L'Hospitalet.
During each intervention, teams remove the old bins, clean the area, and place the new containers in the same location. The next day, during daylight hours, workers reinforce the anchors that fix the containers to the ground.
The new contract will add 154 vehicles and prepares changes for businesses
The replacement of containers is part of a broader phase of the municipal contract. In March, new street cleaning vehicles with a water washing system were already put into service, while in September the arrival of equipment for sewer cleaning is planned.
With the complete deployment, the service will incorporate 154 new vehicles into the municipal fleet. Within the same schedule, the city is preparing a pilot test for door-to-door cardboard collection for businesses on Carrer del Progrés.
In addition, the City Council plans to implement a system of locked containers with electronic keys for the organic fraction aimed at large producers, including bars, restaurants, and certain commercial establishments.
The next public presentation of the new vehicles and containers will be held on Wednesday, May 27, starting at 5:30 PM in Plaça de la Baldosa in Bellvitge, where there will also be children's activities.
